Toys for Kids
Here at Kinetic Speech Services, we offer therapy to children and adults. We keep our offices separate to ensure comfort for the different age groups. In today’s post, we wanted to share a few items you might find in our pediatric office space!
We think play time is the best time! We encourage social interactions, making valuable and meaningful connections, and engagement with your child. We follow the child’s needs in whatever way their play time looks like whether that is stacking toys together, looking at the cars go by, or teaching them how to be good sportsman during a board game.
Here are 5 toys for our littlest of friends we would totally recommend for having in the home! If you sneeked a peak, you might find these in our office or even in our homes. Now that MY kids are bigger, we don’t have half as many toys as we used to. Likely, some of these toys even came from my house before being repurposed here! They are loved and cherished and hold so much meaning to me. I can’t wait to share!
TOY 1: BARN ANIMALS
We LOVE barn animals. We love naming or labeling the animals, making animal noises, and taking them out of these super cute barns! Another bonus is the fine motor skills kids work on while you model verbs for them! You can try words like “pull,” “open,” “on,” “in,” or “off.” Kids also love the surprise factor! Nothing makes kids giggle harder than when you make it a big deal with a big cheesy smile and ask “what is it?” before opening it up.
TOY 2: BARN
You’ve got barn animals but where are they going to sleep?? You need a barn! These do come with more realistic barn animals but it’s another great way to make comparisons and work on size concepts like big versus small. You can work on singing songs like “Old McDonald” and use it for labeling the animals. Try it out!
TOY 3: BALANCE BIKE
Do you have a high energy kiddo who loves to go outside? Try a balance bike! It’s great for core strength, learning to balance, and using verbs like “stop” and “go!” It also helps once the pedals are added later on since they’re already comfortable balancing!
TOY 4: SENSORY STEPPING STONES
Still full of energy? We love our stepping stones in our office! We work on all sorts of targets including balance, color identification, following directions, and even our articulation sounds! We even use it for focusing on our nasal breathing training.
TOY 5: TOY CARS
Honestly, I don’t know a kid who doesn’t like a moving car. These happen to be soft, washable, and durable! You can label different vehicles like bus, car, police car, or fire truck. Watch kids learn about cause and effect, using words like “stop” and “go” while putting both kids and cars in motion. Sounds pretty “kinetic” to me.
